Choosing a walker or daycare
A Goldendoodle is one of the least suitable dogs to leave alone all day. If your household works long Gurugram hours, a dog walker, a sitter or a daycare becomes part of owning one. Gurugram has plenty of each; the skill is choosing well.
Questions to ask a dog walker
- How many dogs do you walk at once? A young Goldendoodle needs a small group or a solo walk.
- What time do you walk in May and June, and what happens on a very hot or very wet day?
- Do you use a harness and a fixed lead, and never let dogs off lead near roads?
- Who covers when you are ill or on leave?
Questions to ask a daycare
- Must every dog be vaccinated, and do you check the records?
- How are dogs grouped by size and play style, and how many staff watch each group?
- Where do dogs rest, and is that space cool in summer?
- Which vet do you use in an emergency, and how will you contact me?
Always book a trial first. Wait until your puppy's vaccinations are complete before it joins group daycare, and start with half-days. A good provider asks about your dog's health, habits and training as closely as you ask about them.
Waterlogging and the doodle coat
Heavy monsoon rain regularly floods roads, underpasses and low-lying parks in Gurugram. For a dog owner, that brings two problems.
Floodwater and leptospirosis
Standing water can carry leptospirosis, a serious bacterial disease spread in the urine of rats and other animals, along with sewage and hidden debris. Keep your dog out of floodwater and puddles on flooded streets, and ask your vet whether its vaccinations include leptospirosis and when the booster is due.
A wet coat that stays wet
A Goldendoodle's wavy or curly coat soaks up rainwater and holds it against the skin, which leads to matting, hot spots and ear infections in the humid weeks. After every wet walk, rinse the legs and belly, dry the coat to the skin and check inside the ears. On the worst days, a short toilet break and an indoor game are better than a long walk.
Aravalli trails and scrub
Gurugram's Aravalli edge gives it something most of NCR lacks: rough, open trails. Places such as the Aravalli Biodiversity Park are popular with dog owners at weekends. Check each site's current rules on dogs before you go, and plan for the terrain.
- Thorns and burrs. Much of the Aravalli scrub is thorny, and burrs and seeds catch in a doodle coat. Comb through the coat, paws and ears after every trail walk.
- Ticks. Check the ears, neck, armpits and between the toes, and keep your dog on a vet-recommended tick preventive.
- Heat and water. Rocky ground stores heat. Go early, carry water for your dog, and skip the trails in the hot months.
- Young joints. Save longer hikes until your Goldendoodle is fully grown, at around 12 to 18 months.
- Other dogs. Street dogs live on many trail edges. Keep your dog on a long lead and give them space.
Registering your Goldendoodle with MCG
The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram made pet dog registration mandatory in an order dated 23 June 2026. As reported, registration is online through the Saral Haryana portal, needs the dog's vaccination certificates including rabies, and costs a one-time ₹500. Your puppy will usually arrive before its rabies vaccination is due, so follow the booster schedule that comes with it and register once the rabies certificate is issued. Check the portal for the current process at that point.
Keeping the coat comfortable
Gurugram shares Delhi's summer heat. Keep a Goldendoodle in a short clip from about March, walk before 6 am and after dark in the hottest months, and never shave the coat to the skin. Dust from construction settles into a curly coat, so brush a little more often than you otherwise would, working right down to the skin.
