Hyderabad's dry summer heat
Hyderabad sits on the Deccan plateau, and its hottest weeks, usually April to early June, bring dry heat that regularly passes 40°C. Dry heat lets a dog cool itself by panting more easily than humid heat does, but it dehydrates it faster, and the ground gets very hot.
Ground heat
Roads, paving and the city's exposed granite rock soak up the sun and stay hot long after it sets. In summer, walk before about 7 am and after the ground has cooled in the evening, and test it first: if the back of your hand cannot rest on it for five seconds, it is too hot for paws.
Water and rest
- Keep fresh water in more than one room, and carry water on every walk.
- Give your dog a cool room for the middle of the day, with a fan or air conditioning.
- Watch for heavy panting that does not settle, a bright red tongue, weakness or vomiting; these are signs of heatstroke and need a vet at once.
The coat
From about March to June, keep the coat in a short, even clip, but never shave it: in strong sun, the coat shields the skin from burning.
Monsoon months and the coat
The south-west monsoon usually reaches Hyderabad in June and lasts into September, often with heavy downpours that flood low-lying roads. The air is more humid than in summer, though usually less so than on the coast.
- Dry the coat right down to the skin after every wet walk, then comb it through.
- Check the ears weekly; damp, floppy ears are prone to infection.
- Keep your dog out of floodwater, which can carry leptospirosis, and ask your vet about the leptospirosis vaccine.
- Plan indoor games for days when heavy rain makes walks impractical.
A Goldendoodle in a gated community
Many Hyderabad families live in gated communities and villa projects, often with landscaped grounds and plenty of other dogs. For a sociable Goldendoodle that can be ideal, with a few things settled first.
- Get the pet rules in writing. The Animal Welfare Board of India's guidance says residents' associations cannot ban pets outright, but communities can set reasonable rules on leashing, lifts and shared spaces.
- Keep it leashed in common areas, and clean up after it every time. Most community disputes about dogs start there.
- Teach calm greetings. A 20 to 30 kg adolescent that leaps at joggers and children in the clubhouse will not stay popular for long.
- Plan for the working day. Goldendoodles do not cope well with long hours alone. If your household commutes to the IT corridors every day, arrange a walker, daycare or family help before the puppy arrives.
Which corporation licenses your dog?
Hyderabad's civic map changed in February 2026, when the Telangana government divided the city's municipal administration into three corporations: the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), a new Cyberabad Municipal Corporation covering the western zones of Kukatpally, Quthbullapur and Serilingampally, and a new Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation. Which one licenses your dog depends on where you live.
What has been reported about pet registration under GHMC:
- Registration has been available through the MyGHMC app and GHMC's pet licence portal.
- In 2024, GHMC urged owners to register through the app and described it as free.
- An earlier requirement for no-objection certificates from neighbours was dropped, but vaccination records are still needed, as reported in 2025.
With the new corporations still settling in, ask the corporation for your area how it handles pet licences now, and what it costs. Your puppy will usually arrive before its rabies vaccination is due, so register once your vet has given it.
F1 or F1B for Hyderabad?
Hyderabad's heat is mostly dry and its monsoon moderate, so the climate does not push you strongly towards either generation. The short summer clip matters more than the curl. Choose on the things that affect daily life: an F1B usually drops the least hair, which helps if anyone at home has allergies, while a wavier F1 coat is more forgiving between brushes. Buying safely in Hyderabad
In April 2026, Hyderabad media reported on unregulated dog breeding in the city, with dogs kept in poor conditions and bred without oversight. Whoever you buy from, including us, make these checks before you pay:
- See the mother with the litter, in person or on an unedited live video call that you lead.
- Ask to see the room where the puppies live, not a cropped corner.
- See the vaccination and deworming card and the vet check, held up to the camera.
- Be wary of sellers with many breeds, every colour ready today, or pressure to pay at once.
- Be clear what papers mean: a Goldendoodle is a crossbreed and cannot be registered with the Kennel Club of India.
