Summer Clip

A clip plan for the Deccan summer

From about April into early June, Hyderabad afternoons often go above 40°C, with dry air and fierce sun. A Standard Poodle has a single coat with no dense undercoat, which helps, but a full, fluffy coat still traps heat. The clip makes a real difference.

  • Body: a short, even sporting or puppy clip, about a finger's width long, from around March until the monsoon. Never shave to the skin; bare Poodle skin burns in strong sun.
  • Topknot and ears: keep them shorter through summer. A heavy topknot and long ear feathering hold heat around the head.
  • Feet and face: a neat trim keeps them clean, but leave a little hair between the pads on hot ground.
  • From October: let the coat grow a little for the cooler evenings, and brush more often as it lengthens.

Book a groom every six weeks or so in summer, at around ₹1,500 to ₹3,500 a session, and find a groomer who can scissor a Poodle rather than only clip it.

Skin Health

Dry-season flakes, or something more?

Hyderabad's dry months can leave any dog with a little dry, flaky skin, and frequent bathing makes it worse. Most of the time, fewer baths, a gentle dog shampoo and good nutrition sort it out.

Standard Poodles, though, can inherit sebaceous adenitis, a condition in which the skin's oil glands become inflamed and are gradually destroyed. It is easy to mistake for dry skin at first. See your vet if you notice:

  • Scaling or dandruff that sticks to the hair shafts
  • A coat that becomes thin, dull, brittle or loses its curl
  • Patches of hair loss, often starting on the head, back or ears
  • A musty smell, or repeated skin infections

A vet can confirm it with a skin biopsy. There is no cure, but it can usually be managed well with regular treatment, and the earlier it is found, the better. When you buy a Standard Poodle, ask what the parents were screened for, and whether any skin problems run in the line.

Exercise

Hot days and a clever dog

In summer, long walks move to early morning and after the ground has cooled at night. Test paving and the city's sun-baked rock with the back of your hand first: five seconds, or it is too hot for paws. That leaves a Standard Poodle with a lot of energy and a lot of brain on a hot afternoon.

Poodles are among the most trainable dogs there are, and fifteen minutes of thinking tires them out almost as much as a walk. On hot days, try:

  • Teaching a new trick each week: bow, spin, “touch”, or tidying up toys
  • Scent games: hide treats around a room and send your Poodle to find them
  • Feeding one meal from a puzzle feeder instead of a bowl
  • Short recall and “stay” sessions down a corridor

The same games help through the monsoon, when heavy rain rules out long walks. Keep your dog out of floodwater, and dry the coat to the skin after wet walks.

Temperament

A reserved dog in a busy city

A Standard Poodle is devoted to its family but often reserved with strangers, and a sensitive one can find a crowded city overwhelming at first. Hyderabad's traffic, construction noise, busy markets and packed gated-community events are a lot for a young dog.

  • Introduce busy places gradually, from a distance, once vaccinations are complete.
  • Let your puppy watch and approach in its own time; never push it towards strangers.
  • Reward calm behaviour around traffic, lifts and visitors.
  • Ask guests to ignore a shy puppy until it comes to them.

A well-socialised Standard Poodle becomes a calm, confident companion. If you live in a gated community, our Goldendoodle guide for Hyderabad covers community pet rules, which apply to any dog.

Pet Licence

Licensing your Poodle in Hyderabad

Since February 2026, Hyderabad's municipal administration has been split between three corporations: the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation in the western zones, and the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation. Your dog is licensed by the one that covers your home.

GHMC has licensed pet dogs through its MyGHMC app and pet licence portal, with vaccination records required, and it dropped an older rule requiring certificates from neighbours. Ask your corporation how it handles pet licences now and what it charges, and apply once your puppy's rabies vaccination is recorded.

KCI Papers

Do you need KCI papers in Hyderabad?

Not for a pet. KCI registration is the Kennel Club of India's record of a Standard Poodle's ancestry. You need it to show or breed, and it proves parentage on paper, but a registered puppy can still inherit health problems, so the parents' screening results and a look at the mother matter more.

If you do want papers, check that the registration details match the puppy you are buying, and that the seller can show you the parents' own KCI documents.

Long-Distance Handover

From Bathinda to Hyderabad

Hyderabad is more than 1,500 km from Bathinda by road, so we agree the arrangements with you well before the day.

Delivery

When we deliver, your puppy travels by car with a responsible person and is handed to you in person. Puppies are never sent alone as cargo. We do not transport puppies in extreme heat; the journey waits for a safe day. Before delivery, we set up a live video call so you can see your puppy and its mother. Ask us about delivery timing and any cost for your city before you book.

Timing

The heat of April to June, along the route and in Hyderabad, is the hardest time for the journey; a handover then may need to wait for a safe day. November to February is usually the most comfortable window.

Collection

You can collect your puppy from us in Bathinda, which is also the best chance to meet the parents and see where the litter was raised.

On your live video call, ask to see the mother with the litter, the room they live in, and the vaccination and KCI documents if you are paying for them. We never ask for a deposit on the first call. The booking steps explain the rest.

FAQ

Standard Poodles in Hyderabad: Your Questions

Is Hyderabad a good city for a Standard Poodle?

Yes. A Standard Poodle has no heavy undercoat, so with a short clip it copes with Hyderabad's dry summer better than many large breeds, and the mild winter is easy. What it needs most is daily exercise and mental work, and a household that is not out all day.

What clip should my Standard Poodle have in a Hyderabad summer?

A short, even sporting or puppy clip, about a finger's width long on the body, from roughly March to June. Keep the ears and topknot trimmed shorter too. Never shave the body to the skin; the coat protects a Poodle from sunburn.

My Standard Poodle's skin is flaky. Is that just the dry weather?

It may be, but get it checked. Standard Poodles can inherit sebaceous adenitis, a skin condition that also causes scaling and hair loss. If the flaking comes with thinning or brittle hair, patches of hair loss, a musty smell or scale stuck to the hair, see your vet, who may suggest a skin biopsy.

Where do I license my Standard Poodle in Hyderabad?

With the municipal corporation for your area. Since February 2026 the city has three: GHMC, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri. GHMC has licensed pet dogs through its MyGHMC app, with vaccination records. Ask your corporation for its current process once your puppy has had its rabies vaccination.

Can you deliver a Standard Poodle puppy to Hyderabad?

Yes, planned around the weather, as Hyderabad is more than 1,500 km from Bathinda by road. Yes. Your puppy travels by car with a responsible person, never alone as cargo, and we set up a live video call with you before delivery. Ask us about delivery timing and any cost for your city before you book. We do not transport puppies in extreme heat; the journey waits for a safe day.

What is the price of a Standard Poodle puppy for Hyderabad?

Our Standard Poodle puppies cost ₹85,000 to ₹3,00,000: pet quality ₹85,000 to ₹1,30,000, KCI registered ₹1,30,000 to ₹2,00,000, and champion bloodline ₹2,00,000 to ₹3,00,000. The price is the same for every city; delivery timing and cost for Hyderabad are agreed before you book.
