A coat that never quite dries
Kolkata is humid for most of the year: sticky from about April, soaked from June to September, and only properly dry in the short winter. In that air, a Goldendoodle's wavy or curly coat can stay damp at the skin for hours after a walk or a bath, which is how matting, hot spots and fungal skin problems begin.

The Kolkata drying routine
- Towel off, then use a dryer on a cool or warm setting until the coat is dry at the roots.
- Part the coat in a few places and feel the skin; if it is cool and damp, keep drying.
- Comb through with a metal comb to find tangles before they tighten into mats.
- Dry the ears gently after every bath and check them weekly for smell or redness.
Keep a short, even clip from about March to October, and book a groom roughly every six weeks, at around ₹1,500 to ₹3,500 a session. For the early signs of yeast and skin trouble to watch for, see our Goldendoodle guide for Mumbai, another humid city.
Storms, fireworks and a sensitive dog
Goldendoodles are usually gentle, sensitive dogs, and many are frightened by sudden loud noise. Kolkata has two noisy seasons to plan for: the violent pre-monsoon thunderstorms of April and May, known locally as Kalbaishakhi, and the festival season in autumn, when fireworks and loud music can go on late into the night.

Prepare while your puppy is young
In the first months, play recorded thunder and firework sounds at a very low volume while your puppy eats or plays, and raise the volume slowly over weeks. The aim is a dog that barely notices the sound.
On the night
- Take your dog out for its toilet break early, before the noise starts, on a secure lead.
- Close windows and curtains, and set up a covered den in the quietest room.
- Play steady background sound, such as a fan, soft music or the television.
- Stay calm and nearby. Comforting a frightened dog does not make the fear worse.
- Make sure its collar has an ID tag; frightened dogs bolt through open doors.
If your dog trembles, pants, hides or tries to escape every time, speak to your vet well before the festival season. There are treatments and behaviour plans that help.
Waterlogged streets
Heavy monsoon rain often leaves Kolkata's streets waterlogged for hours or days. For a dog, that water is a health risk as well as a mess: it can carry leptospirosis, sewage and hidden sharp debris.
- Keep toilet breaks short and on the highest, cleanest ground available.
- Have an indoor option ready, such as pads or a tray on a balcony or terrace.
- Rinse and dry the legs and belly after any walk through wet streets.
- Ask your vet to confirm your dog is vaccinated against leptospirosis before the rains.
Indoor games, such as sniffing out treats hidden around a room, a food puzzle or five minutes of training, keep a Goldendoodle content on the days it cannot go far.
Dog licences in Kolkata and nearby
Which licence you need depends on where you live, because Kolkata and its neighbours each have their own municipal corporation.
- Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC): as reported in 2025, a KMC dog licence costs ₹150 per dog per year and is applied for online through the KMC portal. It needs your dog's vaccination card showing anti-rabies vaccination, signed by a registered vet. KMC's deputy mayor has warned of penalties for owners who do not license their dogs.
- Bidhannagar (Salt Lake): Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation runs its own pet licence system.
- Howrah: Howrah Municipal Corporation began licensing foreign and mixed-breed dogs in 2025, reported at ₹150 a year, with the owner's Aadhaar and the dog's rabies vaccination record.
Your puppy will usually be too young for its rabies vaccination when it arrives. Follow its booster schedule, and apply once the rabies vaccination is recorded. Check the current fee and process with your corporation at that point.
F1 or F1B for Kolkata?
In a city this humid, neither generation gets out of the drying routine. A curly F1B coat holds moisture at the roots and needs thorough drying; a wavier F1 coat mats a little more slowly but sheds a little more. Decide on shedding and allergies, and commit to the drying routine either way. Our guide to Goldendoodle generations explains the differences.
From Bathinda to Kolkata
Kolkata is more than 1,500 km from Bathinda by road, so the handover is planned with you in good time.
Delivery
When we deliver, your puppy travels by car with a responsible person and is handed to you in person. Puppies are never sent alone as cargo. We do not transport puppies in extreme heat; the journey waits for a safe day. Before delivery, we set up a live video call so you can see your puppy and its mother. Ask us about delivery timing and any cost for your city before you book.
Choosing the season
The peak heat of April to June and the heaviest monsoon weeks are the hardest times for this journey, and for settling a puppy in. Kolkata's short, pleasant winter, roughly December to February, is usually the easiest time for a puppy to arrive.
Collection
You can collect your puppy from us in Bathinda, which is also the best chance to meet the parents and see where the litter was raised.
From Kolkata you will usually meet the mother on a live video call. Ask to see her with the litter, the room they live in and the vaccination records. We never ask for a deposit on the first call.

Goldendoodles in Kolkata: Your Questions
Can a Goldendoodle cope with Kolkata's humidity?
Yes, with a steady routine. Kolkata is humid for much of the year, so a Goldendoodle's coat dries slowly and can stay damp at the skin. Keep it in a short clip through the hot, wet months, dry it with a dryer after every bath or wet walk, and check the skin and ears weekly.
My Goldendoodle is scared of thunder and firecrackers. What can I do?
Give it a quiet, enclosed den in the most sheltered room, close the windows and curtains, and play steady background sound. Stay calm and let it hide or stay close. Start early with a puppy by playing recorded storm and firework sounds at low volume during meals and play. If the fear is severe, talk to your vet before the festival season.
Do I need a KMC licence for my Goldendoodle?
Yes, if you live in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation area. As reported in 2025, the licence costs ₹150 per dog per year, is applied for online and needs a vaccination record showing anti-rabies vaccination signed by a registered vet. Bidhannagar and Howrah have their own corporations and licence systems.
Is it safe to walk my Goldendoodle through waterlogged streets?
Avoid it. Standing water after heavy rain can carry leptospirosis, sewage and hidden debris. Take short toilet breaks on the highest, cleanest ground you can find, rinse and dry the legs afterwards, and ask your vet whether your dog's vaccinations include leptospirosis.
Can you deliver a Goldendoodle puppy to Kolkata?
